Columbia Nocturnes - Contemporary Images, exhibition at the Musée du quai Branly
From Tuesday, September 17 2013 to Sunday, February 2 2014
Presented as part of Photoquai, this exhibition at the Quai Branly Museum aims to provide a specific focus on major contemporary photographers of the Colombian scene: Juan Manuel Echavarría (Medellín, 1947), Oscar Munoz (Popayan, 1951), José Alejandro Restrepo (1959), Miguel Angel Rojas (Bogotá, 1946), each with a body of work built up using the image in a larger sense.
Their work can not be reduced to a common nationality, but the context of a continuing civil war for over sixty years forms an ever-present background, much as the role of Colombian society appears implicit in the work of these artists.
Purposefully reduced to a selection of four artists, the exhibition shows the visions and context of each of them, allowing us to build an overall idea by linking their respective works. The exhibition is organized into four sections, a section devoted to each artist.
